There isnt a greatest rock band of the 21st century. To call any band great who has been together a maximum of 6 years is lunacy. To become a great rock band takes time. U2, the stones, acdc any of the bands mentioned prior to my answer are 20th century bands that carried over into the 21st. you have to eliminate those.

The 21st? Hmmmm...I'd say Coldplay or the Killers. The problem is, true greatness must stand the test of time, and we have no idea if these bands will still be popular years from now.

so far the 21st century sucks big time when it comes to music... the only good bands are bands that had their glory days in the 20th century...
although there's Velvet Revolver... but i think i just love them because of slash and duff...

I'd have to say U2, mainly because they are also very socially aware and through Bono are really making a difference in the world.
