do you think that it is shallow or right for a 14 year old to do beauty pagents?

and is it ok for a girl that young to go to the tanning bed?

i have done both and just was woundering what people thought about the two things................

i do the pagents not to juge myself with other girls i do it to do it! i know that i am pretty inside and out and i don't someone to tell me that i am. i have been in former pagents and have lost so this has not gone to my head i look at it like different people have different things to say and all so if i win or lose i don't brag i just take it as a complament and all so.. as for the tanning i am not dark as i would like to be so.. im not going to go every day i just would use it ever now and then. i would only use it untill the pagents that im intering are over which is like in the next two months so like yeah. well...i'm 15, so my point isn't that valid. but i think 14 is a little too young to put so much commitment into a pageant when there are so many other things you could be doing with your life. and i can't stress enough to you how unhealthy tanning is! you can, and it's been scientifically proven, get cancer from tanning.

beauty pageants can boost you self esteem because you are in front of a crowd and they can help you meet friends. They can also cause you to start trying to fit the image of woman in magazines, cause eating problems, stress, and other stuff. But over all I think if Beauty Pageants aren't abused they can be great fun for people.

About the tanning bed. This causes wrinkles and I don't want you to have wrinkles by the time you are 30 years old. Have you considered the spray on tan? Those are really fast and the price evens out to about the same as going to the tanning bed. They only take about 3 minutes and last about two weeks.

I don't see the problem with 14 year olds doing beauty pagents - as long as they don't have a swimwear section. You should only have to wear party clothes & casual wear.

I dont like the toddler pagents - behind every toddler is a pushy mother.

I also don't agree with tanning beds for any age. Whilst they may be less harmful than the rays of the sun, they're still potentially dangerous.

Pale & interesting is best.

Honey, I have a 14 year old daughter - so can see the other side of the fence. My daughter is very pale and never tans - so she'd love to go on a sunbed - but she's also mindful of the dangers associated with overuse, so she accepts that she's not right about this issue and uses false tan instead. Btw - I use sunbeds occasionally, so not completely against them.

Beauty pageants are a different kettle of fish - to me they are a statement that the way people look is important - it is, but what's more important is the way people behave towards one another. I'd rather my daughter volunteered in communities less fortunate than ours and learnt to be a compassionate, responsible member of society.

I think its fine to be in a pagent at 14 but tanning beds are pretty much cancer in a box.

If you enjoy the pageants, and they're not too stressful for you, then by all means have fun! You can get good interview skills that will help you get a job later.
Tanning beds however, big nono! You don't want to have skin cancer in your thirties - it's a horrible thing to have happen. And that IS what happens! Please don't hurt yourself like this - Mystic Tan looks just as pretty, all the celebs do it.

I think it is ok. I am 14 and i was in a beauty pageant and i go to the tanning bed often. I think it is awesome to get dressed up and look pretty. I don't really do it to have to judge tell me that i am or am not pretty i just do it because i like getting dressed up. Kinda like a princess or something.

well to be in pageants and to be a pageant freak is different. You seem like you are pretty level headed and you do it just for fun so i think it is good for you. i think the tanning bed is okay but none of that every day bull

It's fine. I am 11 and almost 12 (october) and I will be in the Miss Kansas Pre-Teen. But the Tanning thing, no. You don't wanna be 25 and suffering from melanoma or black as hell.
