why are they allowing people to live longer? if people would just die naturally instead of taking 10 different medicines a day then the ozone might have a chance, people can value life better. their would be more money for social security and the country won't get over populated.

Its in our nature to just DIE. Sorry but i don't want to have to wear diapers and that stuff i just want my family to just let me die

~Then what is stopping you. Do it. And, while you're at it, why not take all the unproductive members of society with you. We can take lessons from Nazi Germany or Adi Amin's Uganda, or the US Bureau of Indian Affairs, or Josef Stalin, or Pol Pot or Pol Pot or oh so many others for our blueprint on how to go about it.

That is right. Lets just do away with Medicine all together. We don't need penicillin. If a small cut gets infected, who cares. If gangrene sets in we can just cut off the limb, maybe the person survives, maybe not. Oh, and lets forget modern ways of farming. It just lets us over populate. Everyone has to grow or hunt their own food. If you can't grow enough, you starve.

By the way, your idea might be OK for you, but I think that most people would prefer to live a long life. It is in our nature to struggle to survive, not to just lay down and give up.

Also, if you want ideas like this to be taken more seriously, you should check your spelling, grammar and punctuation.

One last thing, why when something like this comes up do people always pick on Catholics? Is it a chance to get in a dig at something that you don't agree with?

Since you are into doing things so natural, I hope you don't take cough medicine, aspirin, penicillin, or any other forms of medication when you are not well. This could also sometimes lead to death. Life is precious and I am glad that it is not up to people like to to judge whether or not a person should die. I guess you believe in euthanasia also. When it comes my turn to die, I will die but until then, I want to live even if it takes medication to support my life. Thank you for your question.

Our culture (and I use the term "our" very loosely to mean the collective overarching Western culture embraced by the general population of the U.S.) values the life of the individual over the utilitarian "good" of society. "We" believe that if one could suffer to make others happier, it would not be fair to that one person who suffers. "We" feel that you cannot judge someone's worth by the healthiness of their physical bodies. Therefore, we make technology and medicines to keep that physical body alive, even if it is otherwise ruined, so that the precious mind, ripe with its experiences and stories, can continue to live on and experience further and contribute more to society.

I believe that given enough time, humanity will achieve immortality, or something close to it. The simple fact that our brains are capable of acknowledging our own mortality is an indication that we will try to alter that fact, as we have with so many other negative aspects of the human condition.

We all ready live twice as long as we did a few hundred years ago, and scientists are aware of what could prolong our existences by another 300% or so right off the bat, if we had the technology to do so. I do not see why that number would not continue to grow exponentially, given more understanding about the human body and what is needed to survive.

It is natural to die. But most people also have the natural instinct to survive. And survival means not dying. You will fight tooth & nail to save yourself from dying. I think when you are suffering from illness the survival instinct is there as well.

Most people will agree, though I agree for different reasons, that we are overpopulated. But I am not as sure it has to do with people living longer as much as it has to do with over breeding. We have 250,000 new babies born every day. That is way too much. That is 1% of our population born again everyday. We need to stop people from having so many babies.

You might have thought your question was offensive, but I assure the fact that I think we need to stop breeding is way more offensive. But the truth hurts & I have no problems telling the truth!

Good question, Good thoughts, I hope I added something worth while to you.

Doesnt this bring up the debate as to what is natural? Arent the things that humans do part of nature? If you believe we were created, werent we created to use our brains the way we do? Perhaps it is just part of the natural cycle of overall life that we die off. Maybe this is how. So creating these medicines may save us, but it actually hurts us in the future... you can go on and on with these types of debates...

Thats personal choice. It might be natural to die, how it is also natural to live and survive. Some people are at peace when they feel the end others want to sqeeze every bit of life out of themselves as they can. There is no wrong or right because even though we have to die, its in our nature to survive as well.

That is the ethical question. Where do we draw the line in healthcare? Are we just playing god by taking our lives into our own hands?

And don't just think about old age. What about the immunizations that we receive as children that keep us healthy? There were days not long ago that people DIED from the flu! We've erradicated many many diseases in this country with a single injection!

I agree totally! But it is man's nature to survive. And the folks in charge of everything are among those that want to live forever so what is happening... all of us "common folks" have become human guinea pigs. The scientists work towards discovering the wonder drug, and it is tested on "common folks"
With the population as it is and growing...why on earth would anyone in their right mind even think of cloning?

They are allowing people to live because the can.It is our nature to die but it isn't our nature to WANT to die. I don't see how the ozone is affected by people lving longer except that the people who caused that problem are actually still around to see its effects.Maybe you want to be let die but Im sure you dont want to suffer doing so. And just as it is your choice to want to be let die it is others choice to be kept alive as long as possible.
