Yes! The President and his men and enough military staff to do the dirty work,Scientists and top notch doctors. But for the common persons as you and I.No we will be left here on earth to survive as long as we are able to do so! Why do you think the gov.has put so much of our tax dollars into the space program?

It is likely that we will eventually move outward from earth...kinda like a spreading rash.

We already have the technology to get to the moon and Mars (except for Russians, honestly, Russia (and the Soviet Union, back when there was a Soviet Union) has a 100% failure rate at sending anything even remotely close to Mars. American/international probes with Russian-made components crashed.)

But back to the main point, I think that if we don't wipe ourselves out, we will visit other planets. It's also possible that we could colonize comets and asteroids as well. I think we should focus on fixing the problems here on Earth, and enhancing our lives with space-related goods and programs first, colonize the moon, Mars, and just work our way out.

As to whether we'd colonize/visit planets outside of our solar system. I'd love to think so. Well, I DO think so, but considering the vast distances between stars in THIS galaxy alone, and the sheer impossibility (right now) of reaching the speed of light, we're gonna have a little bit of a wait before that happens. But of course, we will HAVE to visit other planets eventually, because as Humans (for better or for worse) we'll probably always be driven by the grandest of all existential questions: "Hey...what's over there?"

First we are going to have to survive ourselves and stop abusing the planet we already inhabit.
At this point it would take a generational ship to reach a planet that could sustain us. That journey ....if we are lucky, would take hundreds of years (and that is traveling at the speed of light). That also assumes a strait course for a planet that we know to be inhabitable. Right now we are only finding gas giants next to stars (a hundred or so), we haven't found any other earths yet. If we can terraform...then possibly. But that requires more technology than simply changing the surface.
Mars, ... cannot sustain an atmosphere because it has no magnetic shield to keep the solar wind from pushing the atmosphere off. Our magnetic shield exists from the molten iron core inside our earth.
Will we make it to another planet? I don't think so..... I think this aquarium is our home until we do ourselves in.

Maybe, depending on the technology we develop and how much money we can expend on space travel and colonization! We would need to find a way to build houses, supply food and water to those who live there (which would mean needing transport between the planet, earth, and any other planets we choose to colonize), and other comforts of earth. Then there's oxygen supply. Either we find a super way to gather oxygen from the planet, or get oxygen tanks filled on earth all the way to the colonized planet.

That's a lot of work to do when we still have to find a way to control our use of resources here!

In ten years time an expedition to Mars is supposed to take place. But the habitation of other planets is not expected in our lifetime, perhaps during the last decades of this century when new technologies shall make it possible and economical to establish human colonies on such planets.

It would be mighty selfish to think there was not life out there besides us. In fact, we know there is. There are so many galaxies with their planets circling them. Life forms are a different topic. But I believe it is absolutely feasible. Not sure about Mars, but they are out there.
Stand beside the ocean and stare out, you will then see how insignificant people really are to this planet. It will survive just fine without us. Something great that mankind exists.

I sure hope so but at this point it looks grim. If we spent just a third of the money we spend on war, and political campaigning we could accomplish a great deal in space travel and colonization of other planets. We need to get people excited about space again. Back in the sixities everykid wanted to be an astronaut, now every kid wants to be on a reality TV show. Priorities must change, not just for our government, but the people of this country.

Probably not in my lifetime. But I do believe there will be a time when people will be shuttled to other planets. There is already talks of independant space programs planning a motel in space. I wish I could remember the site. But they actually have made flights to space a number of times. They are privately funded by really rich people like, Gates.

I think that someday we will reach other planets and maybe even move there, too. I feel sympathy already for the next planet humans land upon. Look at how we've destroyed this one.

Sure we'll go to different planets...but not Mars, it's in a bad neighborhood.
