I've been emailing the white house and the vice president of the United States to get some anwsers about the war in Iraq. But all I get is a autoreply. I know that they must get a million plus emails a day. I feel like the government of the U.S. will listen to a large corporation more than it will its own people.

We are under a representative republic democracy government. Since it is a republic we can not instantly recall our representatives that are currently in office. In a pure democracy people maybe able to recall their representatives while in office if they are not truly representing the people who put them there. In ours (the USA) we have to wait till the next election to prove that we put them in that position and can take it away (that's if it's not fixed). Unfortunately by that time anyone in a power position can reek havoc by that time, of course that is what our laws are suppose to be for, but our laws have been corrupted to the point were they only serve the rich and powerful. This is why they have lack of respect for the very people who they CLAIM to be representing; this is why our government seems to be out of touch with the very people they are suppose to be serving.

If your government doesn't listen to you or the People for that matter, try doing something else, just because you live under the government doesn't mean you can't try to creat something else, it is a FREE country after all ;-)
And that is how all great things today came to be (people stood up for themselves)

In short it doesn’t work, and that is what will bring its demise.

"I feel like the government of the U.S. will listen to a large corporation more than it will its own people."-

No sh*t? Maybe its because large corporations are responsible for funding the government, while youre just some little sh*thead emailing them to cry about the war. What the hell did you think was going to happen? Does it make it right? Absolutely not. The Government should be listening to all of us little sh*theads across the country, but they dont and they wont, ever. Now, lets go back to your original question, which was
"How does a government that isn't connected to it own people supposed to work?"-With this question, youre assuming that the current form of a Government is working. Is it? I actually do not think so. I think its too damn big. We need to shrink the federal government down, and put the power back into the states, which inturn gives the power back to the people. Its not just AN answer, its THE answer.

They don't answer me either. You know who may answer with something more that an auto-reply? Your State's US Senators, or even more likely your local member of the US House of Representatives. I've come to the conclusion that the White House only uses emails that question the President's actions as a source for it's surveillance lists. You don't want to end up on those lists. I think your best bet is to quit emailing the White House and approach your Senator or Representative. See the links in sources below.

when the government no longer cares about the interests of those that it serves, the fault lies not with the government nor the process but rather with the people we allow to wield the power. It is said that power corrupts and this may be so but far more common is that corrupt people seek power and the greater the corruption the more power that they seek. Our elected officials should be those that put forth their own record as evidence that they deserve our support not those that try to show the flaws in their opponents in an effort to distract you from scrutinizing them.

you're really foolish if you believe the government is supposed to sit down and chat with each and every citizen. contact your congressman or senator. even if they don't reply, it's more likely that they'll actually read what you sent.

and, obviously, the government that "isn't connected to it own people" works. it's been working since its inception. it's working to this day. whether or not it's working quite the way you'd like it to, on the other hand, is another matter.

Republican democracy has morphed into plutocracy right under your noses. It's no longer about The People, it's about the rich, their business interests and maintaining their grip on power using any anti-democratic means at their disposal.

It's called LOBBYING.
Our government is bascially bought by special interest groups.
That's why we need to put elections in the hands of the American people where it belongs.

Well, your absolutely right. The Government will not hear your pleas or cries unless you are a big corporation. They have money, you don't.
They are supposed to listen to us and they do not.We allow them to exist, thus we should erase them and start new!

Oh yeah haven't you heard they don't work for us anymore!
