July and August are the warmest months, with average temperatures near 80 degrees in the central and eastern part of the state. The summer temperatures are lower in the higher elevation of the mountains on the western side of the state. North Carolina is very humid but a dehumidifier in your home will help. The upside is the mild winters. January is the coldest month, with average high temperatures near 40 degrees, with colder conditions in the mountains. The long growing season is great for gardening.
