To know who you are. To love and respect yourself for who you are and not try to conform to other people's ways or views on things. Be yourself.

You need to know who you are, what you want in life. Take a step back from whatever it is you are doing now and really look- are you happy in your career, family, lifestyle? If not, make some changes! You are young enough to be able to start over if you want to. Just know that you are the only person that really matters when you are making life decisions. I wish you all the best.

That's normal.
You've become who your parents have molded you to be and now with their input, school, friends and everyone that has influenced your life, it's now time to take what you like from all of them and create the person you want to become.
It's all there already, you just need to feel it. It's one thing to "know things" in your mind, but you also need to "feel" things in your heart.
What do you like, dislike, what makes you laugh, cry, happy, angry, excited.. this is your 'Self".
Love, cherish, respect that "Self". It's all you got.
You are fine. It's all good.

As Shakespeare said "to thy known self be true."
It simply means that you know who you are, are not afraid to assert yourself, can get those things that make you feel good, and above all, are not afraid to say; NO.
People without a sense of self find themselves always compromising and doing things they don't want to. Or not being able to make decisions, or not knowing their own limitations. I think it takes a lifetime.

A person's sense of self is defined by the qualities, abilities, skills, and learned behaviors one has that make her feel good about herself. It is how she defines herself.
"I am a good person." "I am always helping others." "I am a nurturer." Or "I am intelligent and knowledgeable." "I am good at problem solving." There are many ways to define oneself and you do not need to know them all. The important thing to know is that this is where self-esteem originates. If these qualities are invalidated, the person will feel threatened, defensive, and rejected.
