of course, the problem is that the government thinks that if it's legalized, all kinds of people are going to get addicted. But I can assure you that it can be legal tomorrow and my mother is NOT going to light up.

Neither are all the people who don't smoke to begin with. If you are going to smoke the stuff, you already DO. Keeping it a crime is draining taxpayers money, police time, legal time, etc. But............tell THAT to the moral majority, or religious right, or whoever is running the show these days (I lost track of all the special interest groups).

Yes. Alcohol abusers kill far more people than potheads do. Besides, there are responsible Recreational users of either substance. Is it bad for your health? (Is obesity bad for your health?) Depends on what report or what year you read the newspaper. Remember the big scare in the mid 1980's about apple peels? And if lipstick doesn't come off your cups in the dishwasher, where do you suppose it's sticking in your gut? The point is, nobody really knows what's healthy. Alcohol and pot are both pain relievers when used in moderation. (So is Tylenol, in moderation, according to the latest commercial.)
The government is going to find new ways to tax us anyway, it just depends on the lobbyists. If obesity is such a killer, then why aren't junk food treats and ice cream subject to added taxes? The sugar lobby. So let the government tax marijuana and turn its attention and our tax dollars towards improving things that improve "the greater society" like fixing all those bridges that they keep saying are deteriorating, the list is endless. Marijuana legalization should be a non-issue. Here we are, the 4th of July, and the government is rattling along without focusing on the Declaration of Independence more and more every month.

Yes I do. In my profession, I have taken care of many people with glaucoma, they are in so much pain and marijuana has proven to be helpful. Like all drugs, under control circumstances it would be alright. I believe it would help dying patient from painful diseases like cancer, Aids, any many others. This country is so hell bent on stupid rules, the FDA does not want to approve many drugs. I think if the drug was approved, it would be harmful to the other companies that produce pain meds like, Percocet, Vicoden and even Oxicontin(yuck). Then the government would not get their usual kick back. I am sorry for sounding so negative against the system, but I have seen too much pain and agony to say no to this drug and I know it will be legalized in the far future probable when you and I are gone.

Before that chemist in Canada invented the marijuana extract, yes for medical reasons, but now that there is an alternative that has the positive effects without the chemically induced limited psychosis (getting stoned) effect, no.

Also, look at the tobacco industry, and how much they've been sued for, no one would dare to be involved with the production or distribution of it, it's like a cross between beer (all the car crashes) and cigarettes.
And it's still a mutagen.

i must say narrow minded people are everywhere. what i have read for answers on this question is appalling. marijuana has been around since forever and forever people are trying to stop others from smoking it. just like there is always someone who is trying to tell you to repent. if anything is going to be the downfall of man it's our inability to agree on anything. damn it, grass is not for everyone hell we know that. but i for one has been using marijuana for about twenty years. i have a medical need. and yes i have a life and my favourite pass time is smoking and beating the *** of people who don't smoke in scrabble or crosswords or any other brain teaser. and i am positive that the movement to decriminalize and or legal it is close. do not worry you will like it after a while.

No. it needs to be decriminalized just like holland and many other nations. Marijuana has been proven to help out people going through cancer treatment. Legalizing it would let uncle sam mess with marijuana he would take it from the peoples hands.

Legalize it, tax it, regulate it.

I don;t see it as being any more harmful than alcohol, once you are over 18 you should be able to choose what you do with your body.

Anyway, I would far rather be in a room of pot heads than a room full of drunks any day! Most pot smokers are mellow and peaceful. I have been around drunks that were beligerent and awful!

yes i believe that it should be legalized if not decriminalized. it seems to provide temporary relief to very ill people and it is a natural product that seems so accesible at this point in time anyway. if it does get legalized you can expect a heavy tax placed on it. i don't know if the people that use the drug would be better off or if it would aleviate the use of drug dealers and the profits made of drug dealers.
