This is the answer i got for my original question (see end of details). it seems simple enough, but how do i install adobe as my printer? secondly, do i have to buy the software? (i can't save publisher files as pdf). officesuite was also mentioned, but how do i use it to save my publisher as pdf? this is probably easy stuff, but i'm not so swift with this kind of stuff. thanks!

"You should be able to set up the adobe pdf as a printer on your computer (even for the online version or so says their website). If you do that, you should be able to print ANY document you produce in any program to the pdf distiller.

I have the software program on my desk and that's exactly how it works. According to the Adobe website, you can do the same with the online version of the program. "

When you print a document from Publisher (or any other program) you are normally given a window in which you can choose things like how many copies to print, whether to print back to back, etc. Among the choices, in a drop down box near the top, will be what printer to use. If you have Adobe Acrobate, the program needed to create PDF files, it will add a choice in that printer list for PDF files. What you do is choose that as your printer, and then "print" the file. But rather than it going to your printer, Publisher will create a PDF file of the document and save it on your computer.

You do have to purchase Adobe Acrobat, and it is an expensive program. But if you do a google search for "PDF creators" or "PDF writers" you will be able to find free programs that do the same thing.

Try CutePDF, its free and easy. Here is the marketing blurb from their website.

"Portable Document Format (PDF) is the de facto standard for the secure and reliable distribution and exchange of electronic documents and forms around the world. CutePDF Writer (formerly CutePDF Printer) is the free version of commercial PDF creation software. CutePDF Writer installs itself as a "printer subsystem". This enables virtually any Windows applications (must be able to print) to create professional quality PDF documents - with just a push of a button!"

The software sets itself up as a "printer" on your computer so you just tell the program to "print" to that printer, and then it saves the document as a pdf.

You have to have the full Adobe software; it won't work with Acrobat. Once it's installed, to save as a .pdf, you click to 'file' menu; choose 'print'. When it brings up the printer options, there should be one called 'Adobe PDF'. Choose this option. It will ask where you want to save it and what you want to call it, and then it will create the PDF file.

The answer should have elaborated that you need the full version of Adobe Acrobat to do this. Most people have Adobe Acrobat READER and think it's the same thing. Fortunately you can download and install free conversion software that will do the same thing (but give you annoying popups). Visit the site I've listed in my source and download the whole pdf995 suite

I recommend you use the free Bullzip PDF Printer program. It acts like a normal printer in Windows except that it creates a pdf file of the document instead of a paper printout. It's really easy to use, to!

You can download it for fre from: http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php

Note: you will also need GPL Ghostscript 8.15 which is also free. Download it here: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1897&package_id=108733&release_id=270066
Click the link for "gs815w32.exe " and run it before you install Bullzip.

Can you tell us which version of Publisher you're using? If you're not sure, within Publisher, click on the Help menu, click on About Microsoft Publisher.

That other office suite, OpenOffice, cannot convert your publisher files. You'd have to build the files from scratch.
