I think that before deciding on what to do about Korea (embargo or not) we need to choose a uniform method of "dealing" with Communist, Socialist, Marxist countries. We're rolling out the red carpets for China, while alienating Cuba which is right in our front yard...and let’s not forget the lil violation of human rights going on in Guantanamo...
Embargos hurt the poor and in a communist country, will those voices really be heard, let alone make a government changing impact? If thousands of people starve to death, their government will only pin the blame on the "Capitalist Pigs in the West.” The best way to combat Communism/Socialism etc. is to be more open, American culture is ingrained with Democracy and core human rights/freedoms. Let North Koreans enjoy the trivial things like Gap vs. Gucci...trust me the teens will demand their rights once they are given a wider range of options. Information is power, which is why the people of that country believe that they are still in an active war with South Korea and the U.S. We need to find ways of allowing South Koreans to learn or at least see a different way of living.

North Korea is not I repeat NOT an island. We are already at the 49th parallel in South Korea, and have been since the 1950's. There has been embargo since then.We have been fighting this "police action" for 50years!! China has helped them and even China has told them not to fire anymore missiles. When are the young people in this country going to learn anything about American history. You are not the 1st questioner to know nothing about the Korean background. What a sad state of affairs.

It likely is adversarial to the pastimes of america of a as a rustic yet in the pastimes of a few prosperous households that get to have a variety of of impression in u.s.'s authorities. that is definitely like that with Cuba. North Korea is somewhat a special issue although. North Korea exists as a buffer state between 3 international powers. If absolutely everyone shaped close ties with NK they could danger getting into conflict with the different 2 powers. This is going for commerce ties to boot as any military interventions.

2 real simple reasons:
1 - We don't trade with them now. If we eliminated 100% of our trade with them, it would be 100% of ZERO.....
2 - Trade embargoes never work very well. We have embargoed Cuba since the 1960s. They just get their goods elsewhere.
Forget trade embargoes.

I thought the US already had economic sanctions against North Korea? The UN hasn't done anything (big surprise) as yet though.

NO!!!!! He has missiles and has demonstrated a willingness to use them. Embargos might force him to use them. He needs to be stopped and I do mean by any means necessary
