My fiance is 49 years old and has been suffering from an unknown gastrointestinal problem for a few months now. He's unable to have any solid bowel movements and is constantly going to the restroom after every meal. No matter what we eat, a few minutes after eating his stomach will begin to make loud groaning and grumbling noises without fail. His insurance doesn't kick in for a few months so we can't go to a doctor right now, but we've read that this may be a sign of colon cancer. Is anyone familiar with these symptoms (chronic diarrhea, loud noises in the stomach after eating, etc.) and what it may be a result of? Are there any methods he could take to help relieve his symptoms for a while?

It sounds to me like irritable bowel syndrome. As far as relieving it,dietary restrictions will help as well as an anti spasmodic medication. There are also herbal supplements that can help calm the bowels as well. However,if you notice anything like weight loss, bloody stools,or there is severe pain then you want to take the next step and go to the doctor.

COuld be Crohn's disease. When the insurance kicks in, get to a gastro doctor right away. Please don't let whatever it is get too bad though. You'd much rather pay for a hospital bill than a funeral bill.

Let his stomach rest for 2 days with a clear liquid diet. Then go to soft foods that don't take a lot of digestion. Make sure that he's getting the vitamins and nutrients he needs. If there are loud noises, it could be that the food can't pass easily in the intestines. So there might be an obstruction or narrowing. It feels really weird (if he can feel it). Let the bowel rest.

If he's taking Ibuprofen, have him stop. Tylenol is best.

If you have any questions, email me.
