First open the case, set the jumper on the drive at cable select or master (there should be a diagram on the drive) and plug the long wide cable (ide cable) into the drive, then plug in the power cable. Each of these cables will only fit in one way. Boot up and go into your bios, check to make sure your system recognize the drive and now you are on your way to install your OS
If you need more, let me know. . .

before anyone can answer need to know what interphase the drive is but it probably ide depending on which plug on the ide cable you plug in determines weather you set it as a slave or master with the jumper pin most ide drives its next to where cable plugs in the master is the end connector and slave is the middle the long end of cable goes to the motherboard or the drives wont last very long if your using a ata 100 or 133 you need to make shure the cable is the thin wired ribbon cable the thicker is ata66 and is for the slower drives and cd drives

Find someone who has done it before. Honestly, there are a lot of risks inputting in a new hard drive and thats just from user error. I've seen people ruin a brand new drive by trying to install on their own.
