"They wonder, why do we fight? My answer is, if we were to stop fighting, you would soon find out."
Can liberals just accept that the world is a dangerous place and is better off for the United States? People were being sadistically tortured by Saddam Hussein until we stepped in. Syria recently gave up on its nuclear program. There have been no major attacks against the US in the last four and a half years. Al Qaeda has been nearly broken, and Zarqawi is dead. Africa is getting billions in foreign aid from to combat the HIV virus.
I believe that we do more good than harm. Do liberals agree that in the long run, the world is better for the US? Is it even possible?

I just realized something: None of the liberals "answering" this question can say that the US is a force for good in the world!

To squelch your silly argument, I was for going into Afghanistan long before 9/11. People who have an understanding of the world do understand that sometimes things have to get done to prevent catastrophe.
If I knew the Taliban was bad and I knew that Al Quaeda was training there, and I'm just an average joe living in Indiana, how did the present and former administrations not know it?
The answer is: they did, but they ignored the problem.
It has nothing to do with "lefties vs. righties". It has to do with isolationists vs. those who understand our role in the world. Remember Bush campaigning on avoiding intervening in world issues and not getting involved in nation building? That was one of his major issues in 2000.
But, do I agree that Bush has made the world safer for the US? Absolutely not. Because there is a complete lack of base understanding that the only way to prevent future terrorist acts against the US and against our interests isn't simply dropping bombs on everything that's moderately scary. It's a combination of world aid, world cooperation against rogue states, and working to try to create a more equitable playing field for third world nations, so Islamic terrorists lose their recruiting grounds.
A foreign policy that doesn't recognize that is a failed foreign policy. And that's the foreign policy we are dealing with right now. A failure.
That has nothing to do with left or right. It has to do with common sense and knowledge of the facts of the world.

Lets get some things straight here guys
1)Churchill was a LIBERAL, Who joined the Conservatives due to their stance against Hitler (and after the war, he was known for being a Liberal leader)
2)Al Qaeda is not one organisation, it can never be broken. The Al Qaeda network is a mix of different groups, all with similar aims but very different methods
3)Hitler was a threat to our countries. Iraq, Afganistan and any other tin-pot dictator they tell us is no more a threat then the IRA were to Britain. They Jihadists will not bring down the Western world. Hitler had the worlds largest military power at his command. A Terrible Comparison
4)Africa getting billions to fight aids? From whom? Certainly not America. BBC Statistics show that AMERICAN aid is often given to TNC's, and Americans give the lowest rates of charity per person in the Western World. Charitable hey?

Yes, many people under Saddam were being tortured and killed. However, might I remind you that millions of people are dying daily in Somalia (who hasnt had a government since 1991, and is governed by fiefdoms run by warlords) and many other African countries - yet we are no where to be seen in those countries. Hhhmmmmm..... no oil maybe?? Who needs more sand and flies? Might I also remind you that bin Laden WAS TAUGHT HOW TO KILL BY THE CIA AND US GOVERNMENT, in hopes that he would fight off Russians invading Afganistan in the 1980s?? Now he is using that knowledge to kill us. Or might I remind you about the Iran/Contra affair of the 1980s, when Regan was supplying weapons to rebels in hopes that they would overthrow dictatroships?
So, yes, America has been responsible for some of the best things that have ever happened to the world......we cant save our own people from dying during a hurricane, but we'll be damned if we cant hunt down al Qaeda leaders (except for bin Laden for some reason) in a desert half a world away...

You can't use 50 year-old quotes as a banner for the problems of our times.
That, sir, is a quote from Ann Coulter.

We still have problems in our own country we can't fix, Why try to fix the world if you can't fix your own country.
Lets focus on American problems first then world problems.
