Sorry, but I didn't think the "monsters" were hilarious.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

The "monsters" weren't really monsters at all - they were really a symbolic representation of fear used to keep people from leaving the Village so that the people there could maintain their way of life away from the outside world full of violence. The monsters weren't supposed to scare you. A lot of people didn't like this movie because they thought the monsters were going to be scary, but that wasn't the point. Anyone with half a brain can figure out what's really going on in this movie if they've watched the whole thing.

I think you missed the point of the movie - completely.

It wasn't a scary movie, but it wasn't funny either. I don't think it was meant to be scary, it was meant to keep you guessing about what exactly the monsters were and what the village was really all about.

I must agree with dolphin girl, I think people had expectations of the movie being scary, and were let down because it was never intended to be scary, it was just a tale being told.

I totally agree with DolphinPoet, I've been trying to tell people this FOREVER, because I LOVED this movie. It wasn't supposed to be some scary monster movie to keep you from getting to sleep at night. Geez.

I agree with Dolphin completely. The biggest and scariest "monster" was the ignorance and superstition they passed on to their children.

I wish I could have found something to laugh at in this movie, but it mostly bored me. And the ending was the stupidest thing I've ever seen on film. Even "Freddy Got Fingered" made more sense.
