My top picks, in order:

1. Texas. They take great pride in their heritage and history as being a former country before joining the U.S.
2. Michigan. Almost anybody I've ever met from there has this nearly-fierce pride and defense of their state, they are passionate about it. Many Michiganians are surprisingly friendly, also. I'm not big on the north, but I'd really like to visit MI to see what it's about.

San Francisco thinks it is a state, (if not an entire country.) It has the most hubris of any place I have lived. Almost everybody there thinks he/she/whatever is heavy business. Well, someone had to pay the price of forgetting our history!
