Teams do this out of respect, and good sportsmanship. So there is no hard feelings at the end of the game. Zidane and Figo were on the same team.. I believe Aresenel....? But i am not 100% sure..... Any one know?

They both played for Real Madrid for like 3-4 years together before Figo joined Inter Milan, during that time Madrid won like two Spanish League titles & one Champions League title. They were (and are) world-class players & they showed a sign of good professional friendship.
Unlike what happened between Rooney & Ronaldo in the England vs Portugal QF (both play for Manchester United).

It's a tradition that most players continue especially in really big games. It seems it's for a souvenir or for good sportsmanship. I'm not too sure how it started but if you watch closely at the end of most of the World Cup games many players were exchanging Jerseys.
