WBrian, If I were in charge at very least our values would not be for sale and our borders would be as secure as I could possible make them.

Wow, I didn't realize we were in a popularity contest with the rest of the world. They damn sure like our money and our help when they need it. Perhaps we need to stop giving it to those that hate us. We wouldn't have many friends but hell, who needs friends anyway right? I have no problem sleeping at night and to be honest, I don't give a rats behind if people like us or not. I don't particularly care for them either.

It's important that the world not hate us, because they still outnumber us. Sure, we could turn the rest of the world into a charred desert, but that would kill us too. It's important to play well with others. Especially when our current administration seems so intent on establishing a global economy. Economically, they can bury us the way he's running international trade. If we continue outsourcing, we'll have nothing to export. Export is how we balance imports. With this kind of trade defecit, the rest of the world can run us into debt, and then demand payment at any time. Let's not blame 9/11 on anybody but the rich jack@$$ that instigated it- Osama Bin Laden. By the way, has anybody seen that guy? I think we've pretty well established that he's not in Iraq...

Your question should be "Is it important that the world like the USA" because then there would be an obvious answer: NO. I don't think you're really looking for an answer are you? Well, I can tell this much: 9/11 and Clinton's international interaction while president don't have much to do with eachother. You should touch up not only on your history, but in your grammar.

as far as making people love or accept us if futile. We just have to be a country that believes in itself and is true to its actions both domestically and abroad.
I agree that if people don't like us it is their problem.
The united States gives more aid globally than the rest of the world combined! Our policies are our own and i don't care nor do I expect anybody in the world to like them. If they have a problem then they should do something about it.
Besides, if the USA is so "wrong" then why are most countries still teaching English in school and paying attention to Hollywood, and why is our stock market so revered and watched globally. Why are people still buying into Americas beliefs and culture? Because we are independent and we are true to ourselves. We fight our own wars and don't put up with s*** from other countries even if it costs us dearly.
i don't agree with the wars but I believe that this is the best nation on the planet.
Anywhere you go in the world the USA is on television and in the news. The planet cares more about the USA than all other nations on the globe.
It is more important the we as a nation like ourselves and what we do.

We don't need them to like us, but they better not stand in our way.

Good job on figuring out foreign policy.

Good think you're not in charge, or there would be a great deal more 9/11's to deal with.

World cooperation is vital. When we piss off our allies as much as we do enemy states, then we are getting ourselves nowhere. People know they have to play the game with us, or they're screwed. But if we end up in a world where it's the US vs. Everyone else, we're not going to win. In fact, no one would.

Looking out for America's interests is great, but doing it at everyone else's expense only create more enemies - and that's NOT in America's best interest.

So when I travel I don't have to get **** thrown at me like I did last time i was abroad.
I lived in IR for a while but still have my American accent since I have lived most of my life here, and some people are just rude... not that I had the problem in IR but I did in England, France, and Morroco

How the #&$% can you say that?

Now you are saying, "Who gives a damn about the World, we are right and can't be wrong"

But what happens when another Clinton comes along and decides he cares about the rest of the world?

People like you are gonna shoot him down beacause you believe in the argument of American power, instead of the power of Amercian argument.

The French are the most arrogant asses in the world. Besides, England disapproved of us during the American Revolution. Germany, Italy, and Japan disapproved of us during WWll. Why should opinion stop us from doing what is right?

Over the years we've gone into debt trying to buy the world's affection, and have given advanced technology to countries that then develop them into weapons, we would be better off if we just didn't help or meddle any more.

I'm with you. You are right. I don't give a **** what the rest of the world thinks of us. To extend your argument beyond the Clinton and Reagan presidencies....we saved the world three times: once from WWI, once from WWII and once from the Cold War. Next time we should just let the world go to hell. Then see how fast they kiss our asses to save them.
