There are 2 types of memory, hard drive and RAM. To free up memory on your hard drive delete files, remove programs, and probably run a disk cleanup (start menu|accessories|SystemTools). To free up your ram remove programs that run automatically and try not having so many things open at once.

Yes!! Spend some time cleaning out your files and deleting what you really do not need to keep. For example, some people keep every e-mail and message they ever get. I delete mine right after I have read it. That way, I never have a need for more space. Also check out your "Favorites" and delete those no longer relevant. You will gain space doing both.
Good luck!!

Uninstall programs you don't use, also use disk cleanup as well. It should help you free up some space.
To use disk cleanup it would located under Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.
Also running disk defragmenter has also helped me free up space on my hard drive.
Also here's a FAQ I found that might also help: http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,97442,00.asp

Those were some very unhelpful answers. Here's something that WILL help.
go to start-->accesories-->system tools-->hard disk cleanup
run this on your c drive
start-->search type in "*.tmp" everything that the search find you can delete.
Another folder that often times is filled with random junk are your download folders: C:\Documents and Settings\\My Documents
Navigate to the above folder (replace username with your usernam) and delete files that you're not using (i.e. videos, music and pictures).

Yes, you can go to disk clean up and implement that and you can go to add remove programs in your control panel and take out the programs you dont want need or use. You can also defrag your system monthly to keep it running efficiently. Some dos programs have a memmaker to help add memory.
