The Craftsman weighs 7 pounds more than the Deere tractor. So does that mean the Craftsman tractor is slightly more heavy duty?

Note: The Deere tractors weight is not listed on the website. I had to call up the store to find out the weight. They said the Deere tractor weighs 579 pounds. And on the Sears website, the Craftsman tractor is listed as 586 pounds.

There is one problem with buying a John Deere tractor that people don't consider, or are not aware of untill it's too late.

John Deere has their equipment built SPECIFICALY for them. If you need to have repairs done on it in the future, which you will, the only place you can get parts, is from John Deere.

It's true they have Briggs & Statton, Kohler, or other engines, BUT when you try to find replacement parts, model numbers, and part numbers don't match up thru your local repair shop.

Craftsman, MTD, Murray, Cub Cadet, etc. parts are available thru your local repair shops. Which makes life a whole lot better when it does come tome for maint. and repair.

Just something to keep in mind.

If you base your decision on weight you should find a concrete tractor.

Actually 10 years ago I would have rated John Deere the best but I think they are on the downhill roll.

I don't rate Craftsman very highly either.

John Deere is more hardy and comfortable, and mows better. Craftsman is cheaper and less dependable. Fixing a Craftsman is cheaper, but you have to do it more often, so it balances. I've never heard a John Deere owner complain about their mower. I've seen plenty of ex-Craftsman mower owners who used their's for lawn art rather than fix it again, and again, and again.

Your right! Get the Sears. Clearly you can get more for it as scrap 20 years sooner than the Deer!

weight alone won't make something better or more heavy duty.
