I don't know any Norma's who did invade the British Isles, although I suppose it's possible. You're thinking of the Normans. William the Conqueror was the invader, defeating King Harold at the Battle of Hastings. He felt Britain rightly belonged to him and so he took it.

The year was 1066.

William the Conqueror claimed it was because he had a "rightful' claim to the throne of England. This claim is somewhat dubious; he held the previous king hostage until he promised William would succeed to the throne. Still, a promise was considered sacred at the time, although many people didn't believe it was valid if it had been forced.

The real reason, of course, is the same reason anyone invades without provocation. He wanted lands, money, and power. Some of those things he gave to his followers, of course, to gain their help, but he kept much more for himself.

Because they were unable to go further south to roman territories. An interesting thing is that once Henry the VIII was having a cultural discussion when an adolescent Elizabeth (Who would become Elizabeth the I) Entered the room. Elizabeth said England had not being successfully invaded since the Romans, the king said What about the normands? to wich Elizabeth ansswerded: Your majesty We are the normands. She was Rihgt since they were descendants of them.
