I think a huge factor of open-mindedness is that the person has seen more than a close-minded person. I think it also has to do with how the child grew up and the community they were in. For example, where I live now is a narrow-minded place because nobody's ever seen much outside of their bubble. I have been out of the town and have seen a lot more than they have. I also believe that a person's values and everything else is defined by what they were like and where they lived when they were 8 or 9 (which is when one is beginning to understand the world they live in).

Perhaps they have the benefit of unlearning all the things that had closed their minds. It's hard to let go of what you've acquired from those you love and respect even if you know they are wrong. This is why hatred follows generations, broken only when someone rejects it, and the cost of turning away can be more than some can pay. I hope my reflection has helped, it certainly came at a cost for me; a currency I've never regretted spending.

Open mindedness is really about experience. Your life's experiences and how you were raised will help to mold you. Just because someone's parent is more close minded does not seal a child to being closed minded. It just means that the child has to have other role models and experiences that would challenge the child's mind on closed mindedness. Life's experience is a big factor in close mindedness.

It depends on how you were raised... if you are respectful and respect people's opinions, you will be open minded and listen to what they have to say. There have been a lot of people I've met, some on this website, who are not fortunate enough to be so open minded...

Education, Socialization, Religion, Culture. Really, thats a difficult question to answer, I think its all about variation within our race and to ask why people variate is something you would have to discover on your own. I, nor anyone here, can offer you a true answer however we can offer you our experiences.
I believe that its all due to Socialization, because everything socializes you and if you turn out more open its because of that. However I am open to discussion ;)

Firstly , i think , it has a lot to do with the way a person is raised, and the circumstances in their homes.
Thereafter it depends on the friends they meet and go to school with, the books they read,( people who read a lot seem to have very good general knowledge), their education, and religion.
Many people change as they grow older, mostly to fit in with circumstances.

because some of us are more enlightened, wiser. Less selfish, open to understanding and learning about others experiences, not just our own.

Sometimes it can be the result of more education, sometimes the result of more experience, and I suspect that sometimes it's simply part of a person's nature to be that way.

They are more comfortable with themselves. Insecure people refuse to let go of their mindset because it might make them look at their whole belief system.
