I clean windows and am blocking the door of stores a lot and most people say excuss me and thank you when I hold the door, even kids. Most even smile when they say it.

You should move to chicago where ppl cuss you out at all hours of the day for no reason. In chicago they will push the door your blocking open whther your there cleaning or not. If you hold the oor for them they usually say "f*** off perv".
But at least you know they're not hiding any deep dark secret like kentucky.

It's a southern thing. I live up north and wish big time I could live down south. It's about parenting and raising your kids to have RESPECT and to take responsibility for their own actions instead of blaming someone else for your own faults and mistakes.
