I am not looking for a dictionary definition, rather the question is posed to try to define what it means to be a member of the Democratic Party.

The question is very broad and the answer that I would like to see should be non-partisan and try to define the positions and stances that a Democrat would take.

A person who wants you to accept everything and everyone no matter what he or she believes in....and we should all live in peace and harmony. But, they HATE you because you don't believe EXACTLY what they do! Because in their mind, if you don't glorify and embrace exactly what they believe, then you are automatically against it and you are threatening to them!

Wow, sounds like a contradiction in their own beliefs, huh? Well, thats what a Democrat is.

There are only two sides to the political spectrum, 'authoritarianism' and 'democracy'. Republicans like to confuse the issue with a-political, badly defined marketplace terms like 'capitalism' and 'socialism' as smoke to cover their demolition of democracy. The democrat believes in the nobility and equality of the individual while the republican believes in the sanctity of the structure. For this reason, the Democratic party will always come off as being poorly organized and unfocused. Democracy is messy, but the alternatives are scary. It amazes me how zealous people are to goose step behind the shiny brass band.

Wikipedia has very good information on the Democratic Party and what a democrat is or believes. In addition to the issues identified there, I would also add that most democrats believe strongly in separation of church and state, the checks and balances system of our Constitutional gov't, limitations on corporate influence on gov't, fair trade, and non-interventionist foreign policy.

Obviously, there is danger in over-generalizing, but this information will at least point you in the right direction. I apologize on behalf of all of the trolls out there who give answers that are non-sensical, inflammatory, or statements of opinion that have no basis in fact or reality.

They are an enigma, from a party with no agenda and no platform. They support reform but have not acted on their ideals. For example, they say they support the working class yet they overtax those working to pay for inefficient programs. It takes $12 in tax revenue to give $1 to someone in need. By the government's own standards in non profit organizations, this is highly unacceptable.
The Democrats in power are very similar to their Republican counterparts in that they support the ultra wealthy as their party needs their donations to maintain themselves.

A liberal democrat is a person who hates this country and thinks that we deserve every bad thing that has ever happened to us. They also don't think we deserve individual rights and freedoms even though our constitution grants it. They also think that everyone except them should give all the money they earn to the government and let the government redistribute it as they see fit. If I had to sum up what a democrat is in one word I would say that a democrat is a COMMUNIST.

Someone who has the real morality to help improve the chances of the working man living out the American dream.

Unlike the Republicans, who look down on the working class they dupe with false "moral values".Making it harder to get health insurance and bankruptcy protection is NOT a moral value.

A democrat is someone who puts the quality of life of the average worker above the greed of the ultrarich.

A democrat is someone who blames the Republican Party for all his troubles and visa versa. The two party system is a farce. Both party's call each other names while skirting the real issues affecting the future of this country. check this out www.unity08.com

A person that thinks he/she is owed everything yet shouldn't think for himself/herself - that's the government's job.

Also, it's a great idea to say you're for philanthropy, but not do anything. The catalogueforphilanthropy states a fact that out of the top 10 selfish states, 9 are BLUE.

The old, "say one thing and do another" democrat.

Democrats advocates civil liberties, social freedoms, equal rights, equal opportunity, and a FREE enterprise system with government intervention.

The Party believes that government should play a role in alleviating poverty and social injustice, even if that means a larger role for government and PROGRESSIVE TAXATION TO PAY FOR ALL THE SOCIAL SERVICES THEY CAN COME UP WITH....
