The only thing you can do is to stop bugging him about it and just wait until HE is ready to quit and then be supportive. Until HE decides that enough is enough there is nothing you can do. Hang in there. Good luck.

Honey, please dont think i am being harsh when i say this, it comes from personal experince, they won't stop unless they WANT to stop. He has to really mean it and go to any measure to stop drinking. Mine wouldn't and we are divorced now.
your first step would be to visit an AA (alcoholics anonymous) place. it's a first step. Or consider registering into a dry out center. Those are the first steps.
You can help him by talking to him about it, taking him to his meetings, being with him at these meetings. Maybe go so far as helping to restrict his access to it. ( i don't recommend this because sometimes they can get violent, mine did) for others it might help.
consult your local yellow pages or use the internet to find local AA places and just start from there. But like i said, tread lightly, they have to make the first step. No matter how badly you want him to stop, it has to be him that takes that step.
I wish you luck and God bless.

You can't help him quit drinking. He has to want to stop and do it for himself. Otherwise, he's going to say that you are just nagging and getting on his nerves. My ex has gone through the drinking, drugs, & womanizing, and now he's stuck with the last female who he tried to screw over me with. He's miserable so he says, but that's his problem. He stopped drinking when he was sent off for drugs, and came home just doing the smoking which he had to stop behind a stroke, back operation, and pending neck operation. So, hey, believe me, you don't need to worry, time takes care of everything on their behalf. Just do your best not to let it get the best of your needs & wants.

i am a drinker, so i can answer this. you husband will not stop until he wants to or has to for medical reasons. some of us will never stop, i don't drink to get drunk, i just like beer. now if your husband is drunk all the time, that's a problem because it will only get worse. also, if drinks a lot and stops suddenly, he can have seizuers, night sweats, shaking.....it's bad. so if he decides he wants to stop, but can't, take him to a treatment center because he will need medical supervision.

I have a great friend who almost drank himself to death literally. He was having seizures and blackouts at one point. Even after all of that, he was the only one who could do anything about it. He refused to listen to anyone. If anything his friends and family's advice irritated him and he rebelled into drinking more. It was him and him alone who made the decision to slow down. He has still never stopped.

Well, the only way for him to stop, is he's going to have to want to stop. Just saying it is not enough. Ask him how serious is he when he says he wants to quit. If a person REALLY wants to quit something, they'll find a way in themselves to do it... I wish you the best of luck.........

Get him to smoke trees instead of drinking. Correction medical grade trees. Good luck.

Nobody can stop another to stop drinking... The only one that can stop is him. You make your choice, then..

You can't do anything. He has to want it for "himself".
You can look up alanon in your local phone directory and you start going to those meetings.
They will teach you how to take care of you - not him.
