The Exorcist .... The Shining butchered the book it was based on.

The Exorcist; don't know what could be scarier than a demon possessed 12 year old (except maybe my 12 year old with my credit card at the mall).
I had read the book "The Shining" before seeing the movie and I didn't think the movie version did it justice and did not find it scary at all.

CLEARLY the shining! The exorcist is only scary if your worried about being possed with the devil or scared of hurl.
the shining has it all, kubricks a legend, nicholsons the master. His face is enough to class it as a horror.

you gave us a hard choice here, though. the shining is very psychological and is freaky in it's own right. while the exorcist is in your face. personally, i choice the exorcist. i like monsters and demons.

both scare the crap out of me!
the twins and the lady in the bathtub in the shining are super creepy but the exorcist is creepy too...i can't decide
