There are some true gems out there in the music world, classic albums that define their artists and their times. Some flow impeccably (Radiohead - "Kid A", Pink Floyd - "Dark Side of the Moon" and many other Floyd albums). Some speak volumes about the world and inspire change (Bob Dylan - "Highway 61 Revisited", The Sex Pistols - "Never Mind The Bollocks...", Sonic Youth - "Daydream Nation"). Some simply take hold of your ear and don't let go for some reason (The Zombies - "Odyssey and Oracle", Radiohead - "OK Computer"). Some create a theme to tie the experience together (The Beatles - "Sgt. Pepper", Yes - "Tales From Topographic Oceans"). Some float on air and sing with quiet beauty (Miles Davis - "Kind of Blue"). Some journey to places only fantastic, awe-inspiring places only dreamed of (Yes - "Close to the Edge"). Which album, out of all of modern music, takes the cake?

The Beatles - "Abbey Road". While every one of the afforementioned selections is either legendary or worthy of incredible commendation, "Abbey Road" hits so many right notes, being so many things at once. "Come Together" - that ever-popular groove that everybody's hummed once in their life. The ironic humor of "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". The riffing rocker "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". The crafting of harmonies that produced the ethereal "Because". The songs that flow straight from one into another, pulling you along for the ride, such as "Sun King">"Mean Mr. Mustard">"Polythene Pam". It has emotional highs and lows, though not nearly as extreme as later music, it goes fast, it goes slow, and everything on the album is extremely listenable and lasting. I'd say there's something for everyone, but in the case of "Abbey Road", we'll generously say there's at the very least two or three.

The answer of course, depends on who you ask. There is so much great music out there. One of the best all time albums is The Joshua Tree by U2. Another fantastic album is called Lagrimas Negras, by Bebo y Cigala. Cigala is a Spanish flamenco singer and Bebo is a Cuban pianist. Two worlds of music collide and they make an absoutely beautiful album from beginning to end.

Best album ever made is the 'White Album' by the Beatles. In parts fractured, rocking, reflective and downright obscure but nonetheless brilliant.

It depends on which genre you are talking about. I feel Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" is the best album ever in R&B, while JoJo's debut self-titled album is great for teen pop.
