I beleive that with all the development in technology, by now the maximum limit for a sms message should be way above 1000 characters.

SMS is still a "pretty old" technology. Not all phones are going to display all the characters. Also, SMS technology is expensive because it's using "radio waves" to deliver a message and not a direct internet connection.

cuz the phone you sending an sms too can only recive that many words/letters

the bigger the message, the more money it takes your phone service to send the message. it still isnt that much more, but none the less, it's more.
