The Shining. But I have some suggestions: 28 Days Later, Ringu, The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby

depends on what scares you.

the shining is psychological and the movie has a freaky tone. you watch jack nicholsan's character slowly slip into madness.

i wasn't too impressed with wrong turn. it is very predictable and a poor rip off of the hills have eyes. there is gore aplenty. let me tell ya!! the fx are really good, but sorry to say the characters and storyline sucked bananas.

ginger snaps is a well made movie. the sisters are complex and you are drawn them. it is very dark, dank, and dreary. if werewolf movies scare you then this one is pretty good. the werewolf is hairless and has squinty eyes. thankfully the storyline makes up for the stupid monster. If you get a chance watch ginger snaps 2.

dawn of the dead(remake), the first three hellraisers, 13 ghosts, exorcist: the beginning, the grudge, the hills have eyes(remake), jeepers creepers, the amittyville horror(new & remake), and there are many more.

I would have to say Wrong Turn because it's the only one that, realistically, could happen to any one of us. We've all driven down some godforsaken dirt road in the middle of Buttf*ck Nowhere at some point in our lives.

The Hills Have Eyes remake is similar in eerieness, and had a profoundly disturbing effect on me given that a small child was involved in this one (the "breastfeeding scene" still gives me the heebeejeebies). Radioactive mutants preying on human flesh, very creepy.

Out of the list, I would say The Shining. But Candyman is the film that terrorized me as a child.

Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock. The original, not the remake.
