I used to live in Juneau, AK. It's not too cold and has some of the world's largest glaciers. It's located in South East, Alaska. It has plenty of site seeing opportunities. My best friends father owns the helicopter tourism facility. You would enjoy this part of Alaska!

The best way to see Alaska is take a cruise with land travel as part of it. Alaska is no colder than most of the rest of the country during most of the year. We just imagine what it is like further north. If you cruise the inner passage you will see the beauty of the country as well as be able to visit the main cities. Once you see Alaska that way you can decide on going back to more specific parts.

I've never been there myself (and would looooove to go), but I recommend going between June and September. If you have the means, get on one of the highways that crosses the Arctic Circle so 1) you can your photo taken next to it, and 2) it's even easier to see the northern lights (and the "midnight sun").

If you head for Anchorage, I'd guess there are plenty of tour buses or some other transportation means to take you to Denali (Mt. McKinley), the highest peak in North America.

I would say Denali National Park and Valdez are 2 of my favorites. Plenty of great photos and the summer is awesome at both. Better yet take the train from Fairbanks to Anchorage, very cool.
