I know both of them have very different styles and imaginations but they're both the "outcasts" (in a good way) of film-making. Which do you prefer?

This is a hard one. I like both of these very eccentric directors. Tim Burton is definitely the more accepted of the two, but Terry Gilliam is such a brilliant madman (ever see Lost in La Mancha?). All I can say is that these guys are in a world of their own.

Tim Burton all the way. Any movie he writes\directs I'm there, in the theatre the day it comes out. I fell in love with Nightmare Before Christmas when I was 2.

Terry Gilliam--he's a much better director. Tim Burton is an art director on his best day and a hack on his worst.

Tim Burton. He always put little 'Burterian' jokes in his films. He knows how to make dark things romantic.

I'm so much a fan of Gilliam and so bored, I'm sorry, by Tim Burton. Why is this? For me, Burton simply tells fairy-tales while Gilliam is always concerned with why we tell ourselves fairy tales and are excited by them.
