It depends on what you mean by tolerance and acceptance:

"What is tolerance?

The classic definition of tolerance can be found in any dictionary. Webster’s defines tolerance this way: "a. sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one’s own. b. the act of allowing something: toleration." Tolerance does not require agreement or acceptance, merely allowance. People can tolerate many things, even things they considers foolish. ... Tolerance requires that the tolerant person respect the rights of others to make their own decisions.

Over the past few years on campus, however a new definition of tolerance has emerged that requires the tolerant person to do more than “put up”—even cheerfully and politely—with others. This new tolerance is what evangelist Josh McDowell calls “positive tolerance.”

Positive Tolerance
Positive tolerance goes beyond allowance to acceptance. By this I do not mean complete agreement, but rather acceptance that the other person’s opinion has just as much basis in fact—is just as true—as your own.

This distinction comes out quite clearly in the issue of homosexuality on campus. Classic tolerance would require that the tolerant person recognize a person’s right to be a practicing homosexual, whereas positive tolerance would require the tolerant person to affirm the other person’s choice as being just as good, just as valid, as any other sexual choice they could have made."

Yes teach classical tolerance.

That's a really smart question so lemme try this...so here goes: Whereas acceptance discriminates our beliefs, there's a fine line of balance when you are being tolerant..being tolerant, by its virtue provides solace and keeps one away from any sort of discrimination. Another essential feature with tolerance: it allows one to let go - which certainly in this day & age - leads to peace from within.

Go Ahead..indulge!

Tolerance, to me, is accepting the person even though their actions and beliefs are different than yours. You still believe those actions and beliefs are wrong.
.
Acceptance is accepting the person and their actions and beliefs, and don't think that those actions and beliefs are wrong.

We should teach tolerance, and try to encourage acceptance.
