we live in a corrupt society that values physical abilities instead of intellect and importsnce because those sports players would have never gotten there dumb butts to national leagues w/o a librarian

If the librarian could do what the athlete does then she could get that money too. Why doesn't she try chasing balls around a field. It's supply and demand. Or beat annika sorenstam at golf if you think it's easy just try it. I feel you are belittling the abilities of athletes. And of course teachers and librarians should make more money. But we have capitalism. So the best idea is just go into a profession that makes more money. Don't become a librarian unless you are willing to live on $20K.

Because they are "sold" on their value. Their agents are masters at showing the owners how a top star brings in ticket buyers, and all the extra revenue that comes with that. Face it, sports is a personality-driven world.

Case in point: Lance Armstrong retired. So who's watching the Tour de France this year?

Librarians get less because their skills are basically low-value. Really, for all the training and phd's, all you need to know is basic literacy and clerical skills, that most kids are taught in k-6 grades.

And, if you're the best librarian on the planet, how does that make anyone richer? Sure it's good for everyone, it's good for your customers... but how can you prove that you and only you could do that?

Unfortunately, people aren't paid based on their importance or impact on society. Rather, they're paid more on what sort of income they can generate for their employer.

Professional sports is an obscenely large business, so it trickles down. If you can make hundreds of millions of dollards just by making it to the play-offs, but have to spend ten million to get a star player on your team to do it, you do.

Sadly, librarians don't generate millions for a city or other relevent government, so they don't make millions, either. The same goes for primary school teachers and other things of that sort.

What do librarians do? They put books up. How are librarians making money for the library? They dont. Athletes make million because they make money for the team they play for by ticket sales and licensing deals ect.

Maybe its because no one wants to pay to watch librarians shelve books.

Not all do. Just the ones who attract millions of fans. Some don't get paid at all because they aren't good enough.

More people pay to watch sports, and sports bring a lot of economic boost to the country. People will pay a thousand bucks for tickets to a football game, but can't pay their library overdue fines. Welcome to America.
