I live in Michigan; and the Autumn Olive has been blooming profusely here. It is pretty much done blooming now but does bloom strongly for perhaps a month.

The plant I am thinking of is a large shrub, or small tree; with medium-sized leaves that are grayish-green and glossy on the top and rather whitish on the undersides. The leaf is longer than it is wide and a little bit serrated. It was widely sold and planted in this country years ago for erosion control. It is now considered by many to be an invasive plant, as it makes many small reddish fruits along the stem that are distributed by birds. It is often seen colonizing fence-rows and open fields here that are no longer being regularly farmed. Individual plants vary widely in habit from each other since they are primarily seedlings. Since the profuse yellowish flowers are not all that showy the plant sort of disappears into the natural jumble. It usually blooms here at the same time as the wild or naturalized pink honeysuckle (which is often mistaken as the source of the fragrance.) Fall color is yellow.

The fragrance is very strong and sweet, I don't know of anybody who actually dislikes it. Passing an open field of this stuff will definitely fill your car with its fragrance. Try looking this plant up by the botanical name, which is "Eleagnus umbellata" . If you can find a picture, I bet you will start seeing them everywhere!

Lantana fits the description.

It has a very noticeable scent and is very aromatic and I find
it has calming effects every time I smell it

There are several links below with photos and descriptions
to help you identify it.

Lantana is considered a noxious weed as it is very invasive
when it gets going but does attract hummingbirds and
butterflies and comes in a range of mixed colours which
are very attractive.

You might be smelling coolant, which has a sweet smell when it spills on the engine.

Other than that, without more information on where you live, there is no way to tell what you are smelling.

If there is a large amount of white clover in the area, then that is the culprit. At least that's what it is in my area. It is a most pleasant smell.
