My friend told me that there is and I'm just asking to see if that's true.

Yes, try fileplanet.com. I downloaded Matrix Online from that site, tried it for 8 days, then subscribed on line without losing my created character. They also have WoW, which is real popular, D&D, EverQuest, and a StarWars game. The games aren't free, only the trail.
