Worst places for me:
1. North Jersey. Air smelled like somebody literally opened a million-gallon container of 409 kitchen spray and let it evaporate. The water tastes like chemicals, and the "meadowlands" are nothing but polluted swamps.
2. Irving, Texas. The state of Texas, in general, is lovely, and D/FW is a nice area. But Irving struck me as being dumpy, polluted, and not a place one would want to walk at night.
3. Florida. If one isn't on the beach, the mainland of the state is a dump. Full of run-down, old touristy "sights." Not a huge fan.
4. East Wash., DC. Avoid DC east of the Supreme Court building, it's not even worth visiting. High crime ghettos.

Prettiest places...in no particular order.
1. Texas, especially the Hill Country and Coast areas.
2. Arkansas, west of Little Rock
3. Kentucky...live here and don't like it, but the beauty is awesome.
4. Alabama
5. Mississippi
6. Virginia's Shenandoahs
7. The Rockies
8. WA state's Olympic Peninsula
9. Arizona

Another worse place for me: Louisville, KY. Dirty city, awful and impolite people who think they are better than anyone who is not from their city. Sure, they'll be friendly during tourist functions b/c they want your money, but go there during a normal time of the year, and you'll find a much less desirable city.

for anyone who cares, North Jersey has more than the Meadowlands. It also has mountains and farms and beautiful suburban towns with lots of tree lines streets. South Jersey has beautiful beaches and the only place in the country that has boardwalks like the Atlantic City pier. Ok AC isn't the nicest area in New Jersey, but I was just making a point.

1. Plano, TX. It was just outside of Dallas which was nice, but everyone in plano were rascist jerks that thought they were as good as Dallas, and they werent. Dont live in that place.
2. Logan, West V. It wasnt a bad place really, but it was horribly poverty stricken.
3. Most places surrounding Las Angeles, it gets pretty dirty.

best place
1. Juno, Alaska. Surprisingly beautiful (on the right day) and although the weather is rainy it feels great up there.
2. Honolulu, Hawaii. I love the ocean and the beach and everything in hawaii, that i saw, was gorgeous.
3. Most of the eastern cost. the virginias and Penn. have beautiful country-side. I love the mountains out there.

Mineral Wells, Texas. If you fill a glass of tap water there at the bottom of your glass there's a pile of dirt. It's hot, ugly, never rains, there's junk everywhere, and only poor peple live there. if you were to take a picture of it 30 years ago and compare it to the same picture you took today, the present day picture would look less civilized. All of the signs are misspelled and nobody has any teeth there.
But yeah i agree with you Irving is bad and so is some parts of Arlington.

I took a ride on the underground on my own from Brooklyn to Yonkers. A young caucasion man on the train was inbetween carriages with a red headband and no shirt. There was an old gentleman sitting next to me asleep well the guy looked at me and made a sign like he was going to cut my throat. I was petrified. The train took years to get to the station and I was breathing harder and harder. Tough me with a feather I would have dropped dead. God knew where I found the strength but as it got into the station I literally flew up the stairs into the arms of an attendant and told him what had happened and burst into tears. The guard took me to the next train to sit with the driver to continue my journey. Boy was that the scariest moment of my life. Otherwise to that I love NY and America.

Chicago.. driving thru the freeway.. all around it like looked a run down junk yard.. Sorry.. Chicagoans.

Also East Washington D.C... The difference between the actual D.C. area and the East was mindbogglingly... We ate at a McDonald's there.. our mistake, being ignorant tourists that we were... we couldn't eat fast enough... it was scary.....

San Diego CA and Yellowstone, Wyoming are the best places I have visited... beautiful...

1. Far Rockaway, NY (central section)
2. East New York, in Brooklyn
3. Brownsville, Brooklyn
4. Neighborhood around Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, NY

These are by far some of the rattiest, worst neighborhoods in the city I have ever visited. Populated by impoverished, sullen people who look at you like you are scum.

Detroit, Michigan. Easily the worst place in the United States. Crime, death, corruption, poverty, low morale, potholes - they have it all!

Gary, Indiana - depressing. I needed Zoloft after driving through one day.

East St. Louis - and most of St. Louis for that matter. Nice river! If you like cholera!

It may sound racist, but anywhere black people live in large groups, the surrounding areas become filthy, crime-ridden and desolate. I wonder why that is...

I once got lost outside of LA. and no one spoke english and all the signs were in spanish too and I was by myself. I don't even know where I was but I was scared.. I didn't even want to get out of my car to use the payphone. And all the gas stations had bars on the windows... and some of them you couldn't even go inside there was just a little window..

very scary.
