its not so much just the dark, but more so the setting of the dark.
IE. if i am in my house and hte power is out when i get home i am not scared, but if it is in a setting where i am not used to, like a dark alley in a city, (im from the 'burbs) id be kinda afraid.

Everyone is afraid of the unknown. It's natural to be afraid of what they can't see. The dark leaves much opportunity to let your mind wander and create what we don't ever want to see. That's probably why most are scared, if they admit it or not.

I was terrified of the dark when I was a kid, but now I love it. I traipse around the house in pitch black, enjoying the fact that I know exactly where everything is without seeing it. I crave darkness! My husband thinks that's weird.

It depends if I know what's in the dark. If I know just a bunch of dirty laundry is in there, I'm not really afraid... the afraid part is that I step in teh dirty laundry.

But yes, I am afraid of the unknown at times.
