I would really like a safe and effective method of ridding my home of cochroaches that is as non-toxic as possible.

Here's a recipe which works well. Mix 4 parts borax, 2 parts flour, and 1 part cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture generously in all those roachy areas, baseboards, under sinks, around the stove, kitchen cabinets, drain pipes, and so on. It's fairly harmless and non-toxic, but roaches can't pass it through their systems. Also, set out some of the traps they sell in stores. Remember to check and change then out once in awhile. Be sure to wash dishes as soon as you can, keep opened foods in the fridge where they can't get to them, and keep food cleaned up. You've got to starve them, or they'll keep coming back. The borax bait will do a number on them, but it's just as effective to remove the food source. Seal around pipes and stuff so they can't get in. I used to live in cheap apartments in San Diego. I'd move in, roaches were everywhere, a month or two later, they were nowhere to be seen. And I HATED the nasty things. But the main thing is to remove the food which attracts them to begin with. Bug bombs don't work, they just come back as long as they have a food source attracting them. And forget the "sound" generators that are supposed to drive them away. Worthless. Good luck.

We have two small units (plug into a wall outlet, integrated night light) and they don't seem to do any good that I can see. We don't have an roach problem, but I credit other measures (poisons, sprays, cleaning) over the electronic units.

Perhaps the more exensive models might do better. Don't bother with cheap models.

Not sure about cockroaches, but we have one for flies and mice, and in the past 5 years we've had it, i think we've only had about 10 flies and 1 mouse (which was brought in by our cat, so I don't think it counts).
