Kim Jong Il is a dictator that cares not what happens to his people. Right now going to war will not happen because this country is anti-war unless we are attacked first. Plus by the time we got the soldiers over there North Korea will have already attacked South Korea. Our only other option is to pressure other countries in the region to get North Korea back to the negotiating table. All of the countries in the region including China have to put economic sanctions and/or diplomatic pressure upon North Korea if diplomacy is to work. China has been the hardest one to convince which is no suprise. Unfortuanatley my first sentence is true. Kim Jong Il will let his people suffer before looking weak and give in to the United States. He will continue the mind games he is playing until he gives into the economic sanctions or actually strikes first with his military.

Well, they've probably already done what I would have done. Since the single TD2 launched failed at less than a minute in flight, and given the history of the only RETS in North Korea large enough to test the TD2, I'd say that we've already proven our ability to freeze missile related plans that Pyongyang may have.
I beleive we used our airborne missile defense system to thwart the launch. Still in the testing phase, and with a budget very recently doubled, this would be a great real-time battlefield test. It would also have sent a very stern message to Kim Chong-Il:
Yes, we know you can launch missles, and we can shoot them out of the sky before they even leave your airspace!

Demand that S. Korea cut all ties with N. Korea. SK and China are the two largest contributors to the NK economy. We can't leverage China, but we could easily leverage SK. Cut off funds to NK and they will collapse within months if not weeks. SK hasn't done this because they fear the chaos of absorbing the North (like W. Germany did with E. Germany following the collapse of communism). But in the end, doesn't it make more sense to peacefully work through the struggles of reunification than to risk invasion and potential nuclear attacks against Seoul and other high-value SK targets? SK's temerity places them in harm's way.

North Korea can see as well as anyone that Iraq disarmed after 1991 and yet we invaded it anyway. Therefore, North Korea has no reason to trust that we will not try to invade North Korea after they disarm. They have asked the US for a pledge that we will not initiate hostilities towards North Korea and the Bushies have refused. Maybe we could give them some incentive to disarm if we promised that we would not invade North Korea as long as it did not invade South Korea or Japan.

Well first I would ask myself how many of our own service men were killed by exposing them to our own nuclear testing, and then I would ask am I really more righteous than though.

sanctions won't do it. if we invade them they may use any nukes that they may have. maybe air strikes. they're sure not going to give missle testing up.
they will continue to develope nuclear weapons. it's the only ace they have.
