Anno Dracula by Kim Newman is very good if you can find a copy also the Sonja Blue novels by Nancy A Collins are v good starting with sunglasses after dark enjoy you may also want to try the necroscope novels by Brian Lumley for a slight twist on the vampire genre. Also agree with Tristan the first 3 of Anne Rice vampire chronicles are fantastic interview with the vampire, the vampire Lestat and the queen of the damned of course this all depends how you like your vamp, moody and romantic or bloodsucking fiend enjoy P

The early Anne Rice "LeStat" novels are worth reading - start with "Interview With the Vampire" (it's far better than the awful Tom Cruise movie). Unfortunately, she runs out of steam after a while and they become very formulaic and self-indulgent.
For an interesting twist on the Dracula myth, try Elizabeth Kostova's "The Historian". She loses points on writing style, but the narrative is absorbing and original.
Hope that helps?

Yep, James Herbert is good, try The Ghosts of Sleath, or Once...I also love any horror story by Graham Masterton, and there is a recent 1 which is about a vampire, called Manitou Blood. Happy reading!

Oh, you don't really need a book to scare yourself, if that's what you're after. Mwa ha ha! (evil cackle) Just lie awake in bed at night and imagine creepy crawly things like spiders, ghosts, vampires, boogie men, etc. Then turn out the lights.
