I have already done a degree in geography which wa cr#p (the course and grade) and now after spending 3 years on the farm I am thinking of doing a agricultual degree (with conservation) at Aberystwyth in Wales, which may benefit me and farm.

I am now 25, what i want to know is; are there any mature students here? and would you recommend it? Is it weird hanging out with people 5 years younger? Finally is it worth the money as i already have a £8k debt which is slowing being paid off. cheers.

I'm 21 and graduating this month from uni. However, there were plenty of students older than me because of gap years and all sorts of other reasons. Some of my closest friends at uni were older than me and there were even some students in their 40s who integrated really well with younger students. I don't think you have anything to worry about in that respect. The only thing i would be cautious of is the money side of things as it's getting more and more expensive to study as i'm sure you know. At the end of the day i think if you want to do it then go for it!! x

I went back to full time education at the age of 23 (I'm 44 now), went to Central Lancs Uni (then Preston Polytechnic), did an English/Linguistics degree, and I enjoyed every minute! I think I benefitted greatly from going back to education at a later stage, and probably did a whole pile better than I would have done if I had gone straight from school. Also, I think you will find that there are many more mature students on degree courses these days than ever there were, so I'm sure you won't feel at all out of place. Go for it!

Go for it. You are never to old to learn. I trained to be a nurse at the age of 19, worked for a while and got bored of it, and am now at medical school training to be a Doctor. I am 32. There are many younger people on my course, but I find them fun to be with. You can also teach them stuff from your life experience. They also bring out the child in me. Likewise there are many older people on my course who I also have good relations with. I don't currently live in halls and therefore there is less pressure to go out drinking every night. Been there, done that!!!! Unless of course you want to do that. You are only 25. At 25 I was drinking the Thames dry!!!! As for the money try to see it as a short term thing rather than a lifetime nightmare. You will get a good job and eventually pay it back. I have absolutely no regrets and am the happiest I have ever been. I wish you all the best with whatever you decide to do. PS, you only have one life, so I say do what you need to do and die with as little regrets as possible. If you don't do this you will never know what might have been.

You will find people of all ages on the campus and/or on the course you want to do.

Between 2001 and 2004 I did 4 part time courses (I was working at the time) at the local college. There were people of all ages, abilities and disabilities on the courses. Every had something different to add to the course, it was really good fun. You don't have to hang around with them all the time.

In the early stages you think it's not finically worth it, but stick with it. It will be worth it in the end, just for the satisfaction of finishing and knowing you've actually achieved something.

The good thing about college is it has no age range. a friend of mine is going back to school at the age of 53 after he retired. So 25 is still good, because you have the work experience. So getting back to school will help you with your career.
Cheers
