The arm band signifies who the Captain on the field is. It usually is an armband, also used around the calf for those of them who don't like it around the arm. The reason the players keep pulling it up is because of sweat makes it slide down and also because they share the band, and some players are bigger than others, in arm size that is.

How else are the refs going to know who's the captain, stupid?
Maybe they should make it so only the captain can wear boots or something....

It's a distinctive mark to show they are the captain. If he gets expelled from the game, he can remove it from his arm and pass it on to another player, who becomes the captain.

it is an armband and not something printed on their shirts because they have to pass it on to another team mate if they are replaced. but i don't get it why can't they make one that doesn't have to be pulled up ever 5 seconds... all this technology and we can't make a decent armband. makes me wonder...hmmm
