A couple years ago, I had a couple guests from the Czech Republic visiting me. I thought they'd be really impressed with all the skyscrapers and the massive scale of things. However,as we drove through certain poorer sections of Chicago, my friend said, "The U.S. has the reputation of being so modern and prosperous, but we don't have these horrible ghetto conditions like you do here".

Many foreign countries seem to get all the new gadgets long before we do. Back in 2004 on a trip to Slovakia, a small, relatively poor country, I never saw one old fashioned computer monitor. Every place I saw had the new LCD screens.

I would say that most people who think so have never left the country - unless it was to some 3rd world country where you can't drink the water. Your question is a little too general. A lot of great advances in technology and medicine came from America, and still are being made here - but then you look at our health-care system, and all the racism/inequality, and the terrible infrastructure, etc. It's a pretty complex country I guess. I love it here, but it's by no means the nicest or most advanced. You may want to try Japan.

I would have to say " yes". This is because although the US has only existed for the last few hundred years its existence has benefited the whole world. Its technology has been efficient and convenient for our world by making same tasks back then like washing clothes into a simple and easy process so that we can have time to focus on more important tasks. The US is really advanced for its time, well I mean compared to some other countries we are number #1 in all areas and our existence is essential for theirs. Cause same of our products we created have powered their lives in many ways more then one.

The world is a small place now and there are many nice countries and advanced, but where ever you go when you return America is a good place to call home.
