In superman 4, the quest for peace, Clark kent was trying to sell the farm when His mother passed away, But in the beginning of superman returns, She is alive and comforting clark when He returns from Krypton. The time between superman 4 and superman returns has got to be aleast 5 yars because that is how long He has been gone.......
Can anybody explain the existance of her role considering she was dead in the previous film?

It can't be at the end of superman 2 or 3 because Superman does not leave earth.

They are totally disregarding Supes 3 & 4 and continuing the story after 2. That is when he left and Superman Returns is 5 years after Superman 2. They are not starting over with a new story like they did in Batman Begins(which was great by the way).

I think iceman is right that they seem to be ignoring Superman 3 & 4 altogether ~ which is OK to me because they were not good movies. Just because we didn't *see* Superman leave Earth at the end of S2 doesn't mean it didn't happen. It's all make believe, sweetie, some of the facts will be a little blurred.

Superman Returns is actually set between Parts 2 and 3 of the Christopher Reeves series. The timeline makes perfect sense.

Well.......I like to think of it in a different way. 3 was an ok movie, I am a Richard Pryor fan, so nothing against him, but on a whole the movie was just OK. The 4th Superman movie was just so gawd aweful bad that I was thinking that they are just pretending like the 3rd and 4th movies didn't exist as far as the continuity goes in the storyline, but thats my worthless 2 cents (and or pts lol)

they are making it happen after superman 2.. they are just pretending that Superman 3 and 4 never existed because they sucked
