Both movies are good, but in their own ways. Silence of the Lambs is more of a psychological thriller, whereas Hannibal is more of a romantic/gothic horror film.

Since there was never a movie called "Hannibel Lector," I'll have to go with Silence of the Lambs.

Silence of the Lambs is substantially more creepy even if you see Hannibal.

Lechter is almost a good guy near the end of Hannibal whereas he never really gains redemption in the first movie.

I haven't seen Hannibal yet, but I want to. I just saw Silence of the Lambs over the weekend and I absolutely lived it. It's definitely my favorite scary movie.

Silence of the Lambs

They were both excellent books, but Hannibal was ruined as a film because they chose to deviate from the book's ending.
