Why would North Korea want to start a losing battle?

They believe we will do what Billy Boy Clinton did and pay them to be good boys. The major powers of the world are unwilling to punish rogue countries like North Korea and Iran. Most of the world think we need to take core of their mistakes. If the UN does not agree to really do something about both Korea and Iran it should be abandoned completely. We could do more by using the money we pay the UN for other things than throw it at the UN.

is it a losing battle? look at vietnam and the Iraqi war.... both times we thought they were fighting a losing battle and both times they killed thousands of our troops and have cost the country billions in war funds....

bottom line is North Korea has a right to test missile launches as dictated by the nuclear treaty... any soveriegn state has the authority to test missiles, reinforce their barriers, etc... North Korea has been testing missiles for decades... this is only coming to light because of the defiant personality of Kim Jong II to listen to Bush and his threats of a pre-emptive strike.

if you think that we are absolved of the nuclear testing, then you need to read this article about how we are "refurbishing" our nuclear warheads to make sure they last another 25 years or so...... so we arent producing anything more nuclear, but we have found loopholes in the system to allow us to refine and refurbish them.

we may not like north korea's political policies, but if we are going to defy international treaties (death penatly is banned by the EU, we just conveniently ignore that), then we cannot hold other countries responsible for carrying out legal missile testings... unfortunately, until they aim it towards something, we can do nothing.

I don't think they will start anything. They will continue to rattle their sabers as a gambit to win concessions from other countries. They know that they lose everything if they were to fire off a nuke or even attack one of their neighbors or the US. The weapons are the only bargaining chip they have. The greater the threat, the greater the concession. If they give up their weapons without concessions, they have nothing left to bargain with.
