There have been ethnic minority politicians whom I would have considered qualified for the job. Retired general Colin Powell comes to mind. I don't know that I would actually vote for him; our politics diverge in many basic places. If I were to see him run against any of several Democratic flunkies, I would most definetly rather see Gen. Powell in office and I would support him as my president.

I can see former Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta in the oval office. Condi Rice frightens me because I know she is a sharp, intelligent woman but it scares me how she can recite the party line with a straight face. I am a liberal but I don't have a serious problem with conservative values. Ms. Rice, I believe is doing what she thinks need to be done to retain a very powerful seat. THAT is the kind of polititian that worries me the most.

I won't vote for anybody who doesn't represent my ideals. I would vote for anybody who i felt did represent my ideals. I hope that we do see a minority in the Oval office within the next 20 yrs. I think it's time and I strongly believe that it would make a strong statement to the rest of the world that the USA is not the white racist nation that we are perceived to be. I think however that we are more likely to see Woman hold the office first. Doesn't matter as long as they do the job well.

I would have said yes....UNTIL i read your details, then NO. i vote based on what person i think best represents me, ME, not madonna or anyone else who thinks they have the right to tell people how to vote...i don't care if its a polka dotted person, as long as they get it, at least they get what I'm looking for. Personally i would love to see a candidate w/ a set actually stand up and say i am about taking care of HOME 1st. we have enough problems here that need to b addressed, b4 we go off on our saintly missions across the seas and waste time and money that could b put to great use right here, maybe next door to you.

That's really a very racist thing to assume, that your ideas would not be represented with a minority president. I would be happy to vote for any qualified candidate of any race if it was clear that they were looking to lead everyone and not just their own pet causes.

I would vote for a minority president but only if my ideas and issues affecting our country were really addressed and I supported their views on running the country.

As if voting for President matters anyway, the last two elections results were not honored anyway. Somehow even thought Gore and then Kerry won, we still got Bush.

Yes I would vote for a minority for public office, but only if he/she's a LIBERAL!!!!!!!!!

I'll vote for the best person no matter what color or background they have.
Of course in my perfect world it wouldn't matter, it would go to the best person, but alas the USA only prefers the white guy right now and for the forseeable future.

Someone's ethnic background should not influence whether or not you will vote for them. If they represented my interests, yes, I would probably vote for them. (Trustworthiness and competence coutns toward whether or not they would get my vote, too.) However, if my interests are not represented, no, I would not vote for them. The idea behind a representative government is that you vote for somebody that represents your interests, and that's really the highest consideration when choosing for whom you will vote.
