Titanic is the highest grossing film, but it's far from the best. Some great films that I would consider the best include Casablanca, It Happened One Night, Lawrence of Arabia, The Conversation, North by Northwest, The Silence of the Lambs, Star Wars, Spider-Man 2, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Gladiator, Lost in Translation, Master and Commander, Witness, and the list goes on.

Well, there are only three movies in all history that have won 11 Oscars, they are; Ben Hur, Titanic, and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. In that order.
Personally I love the film Titanic, however the sad thing is that such a catastrophic event in history has become the basis for a movie and even parodies, which I fear is disrespectful to all those who perished.

I think that it is a matter of taste and opinion. There are a lot of great movies out there but Titanic used a love story, a tragic historic background and a lot of special effects so it appealed to a broad audience. I personally do not think that it is the best movie ever made!

That's really open to interpretation. So many people like so many different genres. One person could think Titanic was the best movie ever, while another person could think Dawn of the Dead was, or Old School, or Casablanca or...the list goes on. I don't think there's one set answer for that question.

It really depends on the taste of whoever you ask. Each person has their favorite movie and their pick of best movie ever.
I think Gone with the Wind is the best. The money, the profit, the Civil War, a love story, almost FOUR hours long, its an epic.
Titantic just cost a lot of money to make and got a lot of money - it doesnt even stand up to the test of time like Gone with the Wind.

I happen to think the best movie ever was Star Wars Episode IV, A New Hope, though all of the original three were great. If you like, check out www.imdb.com to see what other people think, they have a top #250 movies ever, they also have a bottom 50, which is kinda fun.

I can think of several hundred that were better. Titanic stunk up the screen. I know its not the greatest of all-time but my personal favorite is "Animal House" - brings back a lot of memories. Yes, we really did do a lot of that kind of stuff back in those days.
