I have had both. I lost reception a lot with Cingular (despite their new ads saying the contrary) but their bills were straight forward. My sprint phone has always worked perfectly but I hate their billing process! They give you a spending limit and if you go over it (which you will) they turn it off til you make a payment. Except their bills never come in a timely manner or on a consistent schedule. Just sporatically. So you never know where you are in your spending limit until it's too late!

Coverage list:
Verizion - Best, very pricey, bad Customer Care
T-mobile - Good coverage, great Customer Care, prices usualy best in the buisness http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/
Type in your adress, t-mobile will tell you if they have service exactly where you live.
Cingular - Meh...ok coverage, CC is...so so, prices alright, pretty good phones
Sprint - Try to stay away from, not very relyable....prices make it so the service not worth it. Coverage is not great.
Hope I helped
