The GOP likes to note that Bush got more votes than any other President, but he got fewer than Al Gore in 2000 and only won because of the Electoral College shenanigans of Florida, where (not coincidentally) his brother was Governor and head of the state GOP political machine.
Not surprisingly, he won the popular vote in 2004, but that year, Diebolt machines (made by staunch Republicans) were first used amid widespread criticism of vote tampering.
Amazing what friends in high places can accomplish.
