thats what my mom told me and i plan on tellin my children. its just to get your injured child to stop thinking of the pain. obviously you still need medicine and other stuff to affectivly make it better however, when you have a screaming child, you want them to stop thinking about the pain so if say your kiss will make it better they are being distracted and that is a good thing.

Depends on who's got the hurt and where it is. (That's the flip answer.) The real answer is that kissing it shows the child that the parent cares and is "doing something." That probably helps the child. It's a damn site better than saying, "Oh, be a big boy/girl."

yes, absolutely. love makes all the difference.
It's much better to have an owie and someone who cares about you and loves you than to have one alone. Don't dismiss the power of ritual on the participants in the ritual. This is a cultural ritual and it is very powerful.
